Using Drugs for Easy Weight Loss?

Weight loss or diet drugs are substances intended to help with weight loss. There are generally two types - prescription weight loss pills that must receive approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before being sold or administered, and over-the-counter weight loss drugs sold as supplements or diet pills without prescription. Both types of weight loss drugs are available online on the Internet. Most prescription weight loss and diet drugs are said to work through appetite suppression, but some work by creating an increased feeling of satiety after eating.

But who are they meant to be used by? Mainly, they are designed to help people with obesity problems whose weight has serious health consequences. However, drugs are not solely used by obese individuals. Diet and weight loss companies and drug manufacturers continue to promote weight-loss drugs as a viable and desirable path to weight loss. Weight-loss drugs have been gone through very little testing and almost no long-term studies have been done on their use and side effects. Research indicates that risks of drugs such as fenfluramine, phentermine, and dexfenfluramine increase dramatically the longer the drugs are used. In addition, the drugs produce minimal weight loss, and upon discontinuing the use of any of the drugs, the weight is virtually always regained. Therefore, yet another "easy weight loss" idea is useless. Prescription weight loss medications are usually effective when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise program.
